Anwendung
Mit kurzen, sanften Strichen arbeiten; beginnen Sie dabei von außen nach innen, anstatt direkt in den Knoten hineinzufahren. Halten Sie das Fell oberhalb des Knotens mit der anderen Hand fest, damit der Zug auf Ihren Fingern landet und nicht auf der Haut Ihres Hundes.
Verwenden Sie anschließend die Coat Brush, um die Oberfläche zu glätten.
Wann man aufhören sollte
Ziehen Sie den Rechen niemals mit Gewalt durch einen festen Knoten. Meiden Sie empfindliche Bereiche sowie verletzte Hautstellen und hören Sie auf, wenn Ihr Hund zurückweicht.
Ein Fell, das nah an der Haut verfilzt ist, benötigt einen professionellen Hundefriseur – die sicherste Lösung ist meist das Herausschneiden, da der Versuch zu Hause das Risiko birgt, Haut zu schneiden oder zu verletzen, die bereits mit dem Filz verwachsen ist.

Why hold the hair above the knot?
So the pull lands on your fingers instead of your dog's skin. It is the whole difference between a grooming session your dog tolerates and one they learn to dread.
There is a mat right against the skin.
Stop there. That needs a qualified groomer, and the safe fix is usually clipping it out. Skin can be fused into a mat like that, and working at it with a rake risks cutting or tearing it.
Rake or brush first?
Rake first, to open the knots and pull the loose undercoat. Brush after, to finish the surface.
Will it thin my dog's coat?
Used properly it takes out coat that is already loose. Used hard and repeatedly over the same spot it will take out more than that — which is the argument for short strokes rather than long determined ones.
