Quantity

Two grooming steps in one tool. The wider-spaced side opens up knots with less pulling; the finer side lifts the loose undercoat out behind it.

  • Double-sided tooth spacing
  • For dense, double and longer coats
  • 85 g
  • Comfort-grip handle
  • Two colourways

How to use it

Short, gentle strokes, working from the outside of a tangle inwards rather than driving straight at it. Hold the hair above the knot with your other hand so the pull lands on your fingers instead of your dog's skin.

Follow with the Coat Brush to finish the surface.

When to stop

Never pull a rake through a tight mat. Avoid sensitive areas and any broken skin, and stop if your dog flinches.

A coat that is matted close to the skin needs a qualified groomer — the safe fix is usually clipping it out, and attempting it at home risks cutting or tearing skin that is fused into the mat.

Why it earns its place

The one that gets under the coat

Two spacings, one tool

The wider side opens knots with less pulling. The finer side lifts the loose undercoat out behind it.

For the coats that need it

Dense, double and longer coats — the ones where a surface brush never quite reaches the problem.

85 g, comfort grip

Enough handle to work with properly, light enough to keep going to the end of the dog.

Then the brush

Follow with the Coat Brush to finish the surface. The rake does the work, the brush does the tidying.

The questions we get asked

If yours is not here, email us. A person reads it and replies.

Why hold the hair above the knot?

So the pull lands on your fingers instead of your dog's skin. It is the whole difference between a grooming session your dog tolerates and one they learn to dread.

There is a mat right against the skin.

Stop there. That needs a qualified groomer, and the safe fix is usually clipping it out. Skin can be fused into a mat like that, and working at it with a rake risks cutting or tearing it.

Rake or brush first?

Rake first, to open the knots and pull the loose undercoat. Brush after, to finish the surface.

Will it thin my dog's coat?

Used properly it takes out coat that is already loose. Used hard and repeatedly over the same spot it will take out more than that — which is the argument for short strokes rather than long determined ones.
